View Full Version : [ubuntu] Conceptronic Router - blocks internet & pidgin

I've hit an annoying problem, which seems to be Ubuntu specific

My internet connection, while not amazing, generally works, I have a range of browsers installed for testing - I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 ( I had the same issue with 8.04, upgraded with much effort yesterday ) - I also have firestarter, which I have tried to disable and bypass, the router is a conceptronic C54BRS4A wifi router with 4 Ethernet ports - I have an inspiron 6000, dual booting XP, which I tried this morning via the router, it was slower, but it did work ( suggesting come configuration issues with the router, I guess ).

when I connect directly ( without the router ) the connection is fine, I can browse, use skype and pidgin.

when I go via the router, either with a cable or wireless skype continues to work fine ( pidgin losses connection and then crashes, every time ), and my internet connection becomes random - with the exception of google.com - which it cannot connect to ever, so no gmail and all pages that use google analytics cannot load ( this is a pain in the a$%e ), I've looked when I can to find some way in which this can either be unblocked, or that I have blocked it.

I've never had these issues on wireless before.

I'm stuck, really - what I need are some hints, please - why does skype not have a problem? how can I set-up my connection to use what skype knows?

my girl friend returns today, and my manly PC knowledge is on the line ( as well as my monopoly over the internet connection ), as she's now got a Mac, hence the need to share.

thanks in advance.
