I'm thinking of getting a Dell Mini 9 next week.
I'll be getting a 8Gb SD card as well to use with the 8Gb SSD I'll also be upgrading the ram to 2Gb

What is the best way to use / partition the SSD and SD cards?

a) Should /Home be on the SD card? (can move it between systems easier.)
Or
b) Keep /Home on the SSD and use the SD card for /, swap and /tmp (Since if the SD fails all i need is to reinstall and update)
Or
c) Keep / and /home on the SSD and stick /tmp and swap on to the SD card? (So all i need to do is stick in a new SD card with Swap /tmp partitions)

Since it's probably the SD card that will fail first out of them which would be the easiet to recover from.

(*note* I WILL be doing backups, this is just in relation to recovery from wear 'n' tear of the Flash drives.)

Any ideas, comments welcomed

I think you should put the /home directory on the internal drive, just because its more stable and was made to work like an hdd. Although, if you are planning on transferring a lot of media from one place to another, I'd suggest to keep it on the SD, as long as you make weekly backups.

The system stuff should be on the comp, the swap has no place but the SD, because, correct me if I'm wrong, you are planning to change the SD cards as they brake down, and changing an SD card is easier and cheaper than changing the "hdd" on that thing.

Thanks

By the looks of it I'll probably stick the /tmp and swap on the SD card.
