Without much fanfare, developers of Ubuntu Linux have delivered the latest version of the open source operating system that scores higher than Windows Vista in performance testing, does a better job than Windows in making wireless connectivity easy and, overall, leaves fewer reasons to stick with Windows than any other previous release of Linux.

Ibex is a real triumph.

Sounds like the perfect distro for me. I'll down load tonight and install tomorrow. But, I think I'll keep 8.04 around on a different machine until I get 8.1 up and running :)

I think Ibex is one of the more solid releases of Ubuntu, it's more of like a release from 6.06 to 7.04 which was a fantastic release, good job Ubuntu Team.

Yep, Ubuntu 8.10 is a good release. Well done to all. As for hardware I never had any problems since 6.10, it's 3 year old Dell Dimension 1100. Oops, I did in 8.04 when my wireless USB dongle didn't function to well, bought another one to solve the problem.

Nice article, thanks for posting. As I've said in other threads, I couldn't be more pleased with Intrepid. Everything's working just fine, and it is really quick.

I did a clean install to Intrepid yesterday, and it runs a lot smoother than Hardy. On Hardy, my screen brightness would always get set to the lowest on boot, and if I didn't have anything in a usb drive the start up would stall.

I've also noticed that Atmosphir (awesome game) runs a lot better on Ibex.
