I'm getting "no space left on device" messages at least 5 times a week and they don't go away until I do a fsck from a livecd/liveusb environment.

This is why it won't be default in jaunty. Known bug. Won't lose you data... just very annoying and the novice user won't know how to fix it (or have the patience for it).

http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.ext4 take a look at the official ext4 mailing list and try and convince me it's "stable".

Not sure it should be default yet, but definitely should be at the next version. A quick informal test on my computer shows it can copy files more than twice as fast than ext3. (on jaunty using "time cp -r from to") Now that's a serious improvement. Thanks EXT4 people.
