Try Fn 9 for decrease, Fn 0 for increase. Works for me. I have the XP model with Ubuntu 8.10 installed as dual boot.

How is 8.10 on the mini 9 without the special dell version? Do you enjoy having xp on it more? I was going to install xp and then add ubuntu 8.10 as well. thx

I don't normally use Ubuntu for applications that involve multimedia. But that's where most users have problems, if there are any problems. Other applications (Open Office, GIMP) look good and work well. The desktop is good. Keep in mind that many installations of Ubuntu on the mini do not use swap, so it would be difficult to work with very large files.

Both XP and Ubuntu seem to work the same on the mini 9 as they do with any other laptop. Some users (including me) report difficulties with sound on Ubuntu (standard install rather than Dell), but no doubt this can be resolved eventually.
