Jaunty, of course.
The exact release date won't be known for a while (or "It'll be Ready when it's Baked!!"), and the published schedule isn't the most accurate either.
Releases have been known to slip depending on what happens during Alpha, Beta and/or RC feedback stages if things don't progress as well as they might, bugs are often filed as being "release critical" meaning they must be fixed *before* final ships.
Critical security bugs discovered late in the release engineering process can also impact the potential date, particularly if in "core" items like the kernel (or anything else installed by default in 'main' I'd guess!) and especially if it's a remotely executable exploit with "nasty" effect.

Yippee!! The forum is open :):) :lolflag:
Can't wait to get testing again :) Mind you, I've still got some testing to do - and a website to update. All good fun and Ubuntu just gets better and better ::):) Still the odd few little bugs in 8.10 to be fixed, of course.

Wow, & I was going do a clean install & play around w/ the goat for awhile. Oh well, I guess I won't play w/ 8.10, onto mythical bunny.
But I'm going do the clean install, this box was last installed at alpha 4, I'm sure I've balled up some stuff, that I don't want to blame on JJ.
Let the show begin, I've got machines to spare if things go south & intrepid was kinda boring. Oh yeah! BOO!

Don't hate, I'm kinda new to the EXTREMELY NEW group.
So i wanted to ask a very obvious question: Where can one obtain a key release or even a nightly build of JJ? I'm no programmer/developer, but i do a good job in putting any system through hell. So test I will.

No nightly-builds--no key releases--just look elsewhere in this forum & change your sources to jaunty...But, if you haven't rode the roller-coaster that is pre-Alpha--I can only say one thing---backups are your friend.
I've set-up my two Jaunty installs & have left my stable installed Hardy as my backstop. Blowups happen & when we really get going in December--the ride could be rough--depends on what the devs set as the goals this time:)
O---welcome to the hardcore group.....

meh, im sure its not that bad. Beside i never keep any important data on my HDD, thats what flash is for.
I will seek more answers, but as for now, i just wanted to get my toes wet. Thank you for the warm welcome.

@ crazyness003 I don't want to scare you but sometimes it can be that bad . Real disaster is rare but on occasion does happen anything from won't boot at all to the installer going rogue and formatting the wrong drive . Pay attention to what autocrosser said backups are essential and also a stable install in addition to the one you are testing so you can atleast get to the forums to search for help . I keep a puppy live cd handy for emergencys .

@ crazyness003 ... installer going rogue and formatting the wrong drive ....a stable install ...get to the forums to search for help .... keep a puppy live cd handy for emergencys .
Notable advice. Thank you. I do however have a question: What if it formats my swap file??!1?//!11/1!/slash?one!one/slash
Nah, seriously, the purpose of this laptop is to test (evidently, since its not good for anything else). And it overheats a lot. Say, do you think thats a software/firmware issue, or just a design flaw (HP pavilion tx 1308nr)?
Either case, i do needs to get a puppy liveCD. I wanted to install puppy as a "QuickBoot" OS, in case if I need speedy access to Firefox (with flash support, might I add), but never got around to doing it. Oh well.
Hey!!!!

the overheating could be a bad fan or dust accumulation blocking airflow , how long has it been since you blew the dust out ? also your cpu may not be throttling and be running at max all the time, does it heat up with any OS or just Ubuntu ? Puppy don't need to be installed although it can be ,it runs from the cd although boot from the cd ofcourse takes longer , it also installs to a usbstick or CF card if your laptop will boot from one . It will save back to the cd(or dvd) if you burn it open (multisession) so you never have to save anything to your HD I keep a copy setup that way so I can have my "home system" on any box complete with passwords and bookmarks .

Actually, Ubuntu does a good job. windows is the one that dosnt throttle. I can see the throttling in Ubuntu when i open the System Monitor. But sometimes, when im doing something processor-intensive, the CPU has to run at 100%, thats when things start getting all bizzaro on me. I honestly think its a design flaw, but it could be the dust buildup (highly unlikely, the laptop isint even a year old).
Anyway, looking forward to JJ. I see a lot of people complain about the advances made (??? i know). Some think 7.04 is the best Ubuntu release ever. I could disagree on so many levels. So I wanna see how thins one develops.

there are cpu temp and frequency scaling monitors for the top panel ( rt click on panel>ad to panel) so you don't have to open system-monitor . Also dust can buildup faster than you think I "blowout" my desktops 2 or 3 times a year and the inlet screen for the fan just about monthly .
