SigmaTel 9250 Gateway MT6705 Ubuntu 8.10 No Sound

Hi,

When I installed 8.10 originally, I noticed sound during startup...during my Ubuntu Session however there is virutally no sound. At one point there was sound if I raised the volume bar above 75%...so I tried to solve the problems by reinstalling alsa drivers and such following a walkthrough by Ubuntu for HDIntel sound drivers...now however I have absolutely no sound.

My laptop is a Gateway MT6705.

it seems to work now, but only if the volume is above 75%...otherwise no sound...any way to fix this?
