I would like to see the ability to increase the size of personal signatures on Ubuntuforums. 250 characters just doesn't handle it for me, although it may be sufficient for most. On that topic also, digital signatures would be nice as well (graphics instead of just text). Is this something the admins are looking at?
I am interested also to see what other people think. Please vote in the poll on your opinion about signatures.

I'm not speaking on behalf of the administration--this is just my personal opinion. I think 250 characters is just fine, and I'm against having graphics unless there's something in the User CP to block graphics in other people's signatures.
Frankly, I'd love to have a feature whereby I can see people's signatures only if they're links to something else (like a useful Ubuntu tutorial)--I don't really care for people's witty saying and inspiring quotations.

What, no option for shortening the signatures? ;)

I didn't vote, since there's no option for 'graphics allowed but limited size'
The quote I'm currently using is from Samurai Jack, and IMO it would be nice to include this picture with it:

(now why can't I embed that in the post, like in other forums here?)
I'll attach it instead.
Anyway, it's only 1k, not a big deal. But take a look at some of the posts here (http://www.visordown.com/forums/index.php) to see why large graphics in signatures isn't a good idea. In another forum I've seen (which I won't post here as it's, erm, adult oriented ;) ) one guy has a 500k animated gif in his sig. Ok once it's in your cache I suppose, but it's rather OTT I think. But then, he's the site admin so he can do what he likes!

:p I'm all about increasing them. Why would I want an option to decrease them? :p

Sorry guys, but we're not going to increase the signature size at this time, nor are we going to allow images in signatures.

I understand not allowing graphics in the sig, but why not increase the size of the text to at least 500 characters, if not more?

Sorry, but its going to stay at 250 characters if anything it should be shorter we dont need thousands of characters stored and displayed that doesnt really pretain to the thread in question.

My personal opinion is that anything more than 3 lines of default colored text is obnoxious. I don't need to read everything about you at the bottom of every post you make. If I'm interested I'll look in your profile.

As I see it, the only time you might need more than 250 characters is if you have some links containing rather long urls in the sig. I see Aaron has a few links there.
In which case, tinyurl is your friend.
If that's not enough, the either you have too many links or you should put them all on a webpage and link to that instead.

Just a small suggestion, how about limiting the number of lines instead of characters? This would allow for long links, but make sure the post won't get much longer because of irrelevant information (ie. less need to scroll, which would be a good thing). Otherwise, I'm perfectly fine with 250 chars, even 0 would be ok for me :)

My motivation for increasing the text count was ASCII art. The email signature I created with a simple text editor is quite beautiful that I am rather proud of. Unfortunately, it is around 900 characters, or so. Check it out (http://toponcefamily.com/blogs/aaron/archive/2005/09/15/798.aspx). Also, the width seems to be larger than what is allowed for these forums. It is 70 characters wide.
I do agree that sigs can get out of hand. I only find signatures useful when they either point to links related to the topic at hand, in this case Ubuntu. Or when they provide others with a small resume, like mine. As far as the graphics are concerned, I would imagine many Linux gamers would enjoy promoting their favorite game in their sig.

It may be nice, but the forums don't use a fixed pitch font, so it won't look right.
That may be your gmail problem too.
