I am using unbuntu my bud is using windows xp.
I have Pidgin, he does not. He is using MSN chat.
How do we make OTR work?
Pk Mang says its installed for me.
I click the OTR button and it says trying to start
private conv. but my bud can't get it to work or
open on his side?
What else if anything should i be doing or does OTR
work automatically from my side?
Is their any different encryption program we could use
that would offer the same security And be easy to use/install?
He has now installed OTR but he still does not have an OTR button in his
chat box, IE nothing happens on his side when I try to start an OTR
conversation from my side. He can't find a way to start anything
but his normal chat from his side.

It just sounds like your buddy has not enabled the plugin or skipped some other step...

@lowsky: Off the record is a plugin you can add to pidgin. Once you enable that plugin, anybody else that has OTR or a compatible equivalent will be able to communicate with you securely. The first time you talk to them, you will be prompted to accept them as a verified contact and you'll see "private" in the lower right corner of any subsequent conversations with them.
