Hi guys, I have a first generation core duo macbook running ubuntu 8 with all the latest updates.

My 'airport extreme' works fine, but I would like to be able to use my linksys wusb1.1 ver2.5 with an app like kismet to sniff traffic.

How do I get ubuntu to initialize/mount the usb network card? It doesn't seem to happen automatically even if I have it plugged in to start.

Also, how would I 'dismount' my airport card? Is 'ifconfig wifi0 down' enough?

Thanks!!

you could just unload the driver.

Unloading the driver for the aiport will make my usb network card work? I think the wusb11 I have is well supported by ubuntu, but I don't understand your reply.

sorry, I edited my post to be more clear about what my reply was addressing.

You will have to figure out how to get your USB adapter working otherwise. You might check in the wireless & networking forum for a how-to or something.
