consistantly freezing going into the program guide

I can access the program guide fine by going from the home menu > manage recordings > schedule recordings > program guide, but if I'm watching TV and hit M for the menu and then select the program guide I just get a black screen. I can't change to any other terminals, control-alt-backspace doesn't work, I just have to reboot.

Any ideas?
