Hello,
I post this question on this site because debian and ubuntu are related. And the Ubuntu community is known for its helpfulness.

I have an Asus eee pc 2G surf. I installed debian-eeepc on it about 3 weeks ago. I'm using LXDE as the desktop environment.

I can play audio files fine. When I start skype, I hear the "opening" sound-effect playing. When I call someone, I can hear his voice, but he can't hear mine.

I tried the echo test (calling user "echo123" on skype) and shouted into my mic, but no echo.

I tried going to alsamixer and turning everything in the capture tab up. I tried e-mic and i-mic. But nothing works.

I'm sure my mic on my headset works, because it works on my Ubuntu desktop. And my headset is not USB but analog jacks.

What must I do to get my debian-eeepc to listen to the mic?

This (http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC/HowTo/Sound) may help.

wolfen69, i had looked at that link before your post.

Regarding Section 2 (Alsamixer (http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC/HowTo/Sound#head-f2cdecbb9b464f0d30746cff1c0bfebf1930d11a)) of that link
I think I've tried many different configurations. So, I think alsamixer doesn't help.

Before doing different things, is there a way to FIRST see what the problem is? I think that knowing what the actual problem is is better than just running experiments.

Can someone tell me how to pinpoint what the problem is?

you could try installing the latest version of alsa.

I changed the default input to OSS to get my mic working with Skype... Pop into multimedia systems selector and give that a try maybe...

One can try this, one can try that.

But as said, what I seek before performing experiments is to know what the problem is. I think if we can accurately locate the problem, then we have a better idea of what steps to take to reach a solution.
