Hi,

a quick question for those who've tried this.

I will be upgrading to a sexier computer soon (faster, more memory etc) and I wondered (having once read hints to the contrary) if it will be possible to run the virtual machines i'm currently running on my old tired Host, on the new machine.

Is it possible?
I remember reading once that you can't a virtual-box virtual machine on different hosts. Was that wrong? Did I misunderstand? Was it correct at the time, and now things are better??

Thanks for any reply!

if you can't do that, then virtualbox is a pretty poor piece of software. one of the main points of virtualisation software is migration, be it live migration or not. the free version of virtualbox does not do live migration though. perhaps thats what you're thinking of.

I really don't know yet. I'm going to have to find myself another computer to test this. Since no one else seems to be able to comment on this....

You can do that but I can't find any links to prove that right now. You can also download already made images from the internet. The fastest virtual machine seems to be qemu (with qemu launcher)

As most of the hardware is emulated, you should have no problem doing this
