What software do I need to install to install and run Windows under Ubuntu 8.04?

You need visualization software such as VMware, this can be installed via Synaptic Package Manager. (System -> Administration -> Synaptic)

If you need help setting up then do a search on the forums here.

You could create a virtual machine using Vmware or Virtual box. I tried Vmware but personally found it inferior to a dual boot.

If you'd like to consider a dual boot here's a simple basic guide for XP:

For Vista:

Just going to add a little bit more information to what's already been said. If you have a 64-bit copy of windows, you will need to use VMware server to get that up and running. And if you are thinking of doing virtualization for gaming purposes, think again. I tried to do gaming under a virtual machine and it doesn't perform very well.

Your options are VMWare (server is freely available, follow the how to on the top of these forums for installation).

VirtualBox

Or (if you have the hardware) KVM or (if not) qemu. qemu will be the slowest of the 4.

I would recommend using VMware...
