I uncommented the lines as per the sticky thread, and get the following error message when I tried running Synaptic

Any idea where I went wrong.

Previously I had only uncommented the backports lines, but I got the same errors.

Generally, you get those types of errors when you haven't updated the repos which are included in your source list. What is the ouput of that command?

$ sudo apt-get update

Hmmm before I ran that command, I pressed the reload button on Synaptic and it seemed to start working.

The response of that command seemed to suggest things are working correctly :)

Perhaps you could add the statement to the sticky that you have to hit the reload button :)
