View Full Version : How to create icon with transparent background color in GIMP?

Hello everybody

I need an icon with transparent background color to place as adv. for my site on my video clips but eveytime i try to create the icon in GIMP i get an icon with a background color when i save the icon. Does anybody knows how to do this may be with another graphics program ?
I will appriciate any help/direction.

make the new background transparent and save as a png.

That's it, that's all.

You were probably saving it as a jpg.

No, i do save the images as png with background as transparent bat it has a white background.

If you start a new image in GIMP, it will have a white background. To get a transparent background, you can follow these steps:
*Denotes optional

*1) Select background with magic wand tool.
*2) If you did the above, then feather it to your desired amount of pixels.
3) Go to Layers > Transparency > Color to alpha
4) select the background color, and then click OK.
5) You are done. :D
