Sound Issues

I am having sound issues. Sound effects play fine, but sound files played in amarok or rythmbox don't produce sound even when they show that they are playing. I am running 8.04 on a intel mac mini core duo 1.83

I don't know if this will help, but sound problems like this usually mean that a codec is missing. Try:

These are free codecs. I bought the pay-for codecs from fluendo and have little or no problems with any distro I tried.

I don't think it's a codec problem. Rhythmbox would give you an error and fail to play the files. have you tried running it in terminal and looking for some kind of playback error? Do you have the sound going to the correct output?

I had the same problem, fixed by specifying the correct sound device in the settings of the program(also had this issue with vlc, audacity).

hey guys, thanks for the info, i had a imic hooked through usb unplugged it and everything is working great now
