Pardon, but I'm new to Ubuntu and this forum. I'm a Mac consultant and have a client who is a auto engineer and makes heavy use of vector graphics. We tried to setup VMware and Ubuntu 8.04 on his MacPro (quad processors) but the graphics were painfully slow. He had it running fast on an old HP box with a Sun virtualization. He believes that we should be able natively install Ubuntu; so do I. But, most of the discussions are about iMac, MacBook, and MacBookPro. Is there anything materially different to lookout for on the MacPro? Does an install require a separate partition? What about the graphics speed? Would a separate graphics card for just the Ubuntu install help?

Thanks in advance.

There is not much different in the actually install process. If it worked well in Sun's VirtualBox on a PC, it should work well in VirtualBox in OSX too.

What software are you trying to use? It might be available to run in OSX!

We tried to run it in VMware-the newest update. The graphics were too slow compared to the Sun's VirtualBox. By the way, is there a way to install NTFS on a second partition that has 10.5.5 on the first partition. The idea is to put Ubuntu on the NTFS partition.

I guess my point was, why don't you just stick with VirtualBox if VMWare doesn't work for you...
