Tried opensuse 11 for a few days. KDE implementation quite nice. Just couldn't stomach Yast with its horrific download speed. For the past two days have been trying to update and just managed a few. In these two days could have downloaded all the updates a fresh Hardy install needs! So am back and glad to be back!

Do you really think the download speed has something to do with YaST??????? From your box the fault would be in cURL or in the Linux TCP stack... and I highly doubt any of them has any problem.
Here I see two possibilities:
a) Error between chair and monitor.
b) The redirector was directing you to a bad mirror... and will continue to do so with more pople near you since you didn't reported it. With some luck it will be a temporal problem in the mirror and tomorrow it will be working fine.
If someone is interested... yes, this is being improved client-side: http://en.opensuse.org/Libzypp/Failover

Yay! Good for you!
Do we really need a post about it...I mean you've already made up your mind to go back...

I really was impressed by the snappiness of the OS. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it twice in the hope that I could get going with it. But the second time round the update process just didn't happen. So went back to Ubuntu again! I really can't see how my update process should work so flawlessly in Ubuntu and go aground in OpenSuse?
