Hi,
I've found this[1] wallpaper on google and find it very beautiful, except for the Apple logo, which I don't see fit on my Ubuntu machine... I have tried `gimping` it out[2], but I can't seem to get everything away, and there's places where you easily can see colour-faults from where I have been working on it...
Do you guys know where I can get the wallpaper without the logo, or can someone help doing a appleless version of it?

i actually like dark desktops, so i prefer this image http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=87065&d=1222977816 to the natural wooden one

It's sad those doesn't have the same look and feel as the apple one those, and I can't seem to recreate it (the same warmth and the lights) - without it, it's just a doll wooden texture, if you ask me...

Yeah - that one looks really nice!!! Too dark for my choice of wallpaper, though.

Thank you very much.
This looks pretty good as a background in folders, also.
Very cool.

Anyone have the skill to remove the apple logo from the apple wallpaper[1] or recreate the look and feel of it on the ones meborc found[2]?

this is a bit warmer http://fc53.deviantart.com/fs32/f/2008/220/4/8/wood_wallpaper_by_nosrepa.jpg
although i think the first one i gave was great as you can just play with layers/colors/opacity in gimp and make it look like you want it... this one is too dark for that i think

I myself came up with something like that, but I'm kinda looking for the exact apple one, but without the logo, and recreating things are tough, so I guess the real answer is for me to remove the rest of the logo if possible.

I think it looks better without any logo. Branding FTL.

Yeah, I did it with gimp. The way I did the shadow was, I imported an Ubuntu logo, created a new layer and then did a alpha to selection on the layer with the logo. I then filled that selection with black on the new layer so that I had a black ubuntu logo layer and the imported logo layer. I went back to the imported logo and moved it down 5 or 6 pixels and did another alpha to selection and cut this new section out of the black ubuntu logo. That will give you a shadow, but it's still not quite there. I moved the imported logo back to its original position and another alpha to selection. Then I selected the black logo layer and did a gaussian blur of 2 or 3 pixels. It's important to do that with the selection active so that you still have hard lines on the shadow where they should be. After that, all you have to do is select the bottom layer and lighten your selected area with Colors>Brightness-Contrast, and you're done. Hope that helped.

Thanks, thats what i tried in gimp but i was missing the blur so it looked flat. I find it strange that gimp does not have a feature that photoshop has had since version 6 (maybe earlier, certainly in 7.01)

Yes.. that background is almost perfect :KS , except for that apple logo.. It doesn't fit Ubuntu machines. I'm sorry but I'm not good when it comes in gimping... Why not try asking a friend, or a family member or a relative who is expert in gimping? They can help a lot! ;)
