Hi, I was wondering if there is a decent alternative videoplayer to mplayer and VLC.
I'm looking for a player that plays with video and sound in sync at all times (as opposed to mplayer), that actually works with the keys I set up in its preference menu and doesn't slow down my dualcore /geforce 8800 computer horribly (as opposed to VLC.)

I was happy with mplayer because of the easy hotkeys and low system resources it consumes, until the latest version started lagging (and yes I've tried all the supposed solutions on the forums but they just don't work.)

What do you think is a good videoplayer for ubuntu?

Not sure if it's what you want but Kaffeine runs nice for me.

Kaffeine doesn't like avi's, I'm looking for a player that can play avi's without any bugs or lag.

Zoom Player and Boom Player are 2 good player that could play altmost every media format.

Sounds good, where can I get them? They're not in the repositories and I can only find windows versions on the web.

Apparently none have a good version for Ubuntu. I had some old version for Ubuntu but now they aren't working anymore :(

I think both mplayer and vlc are just fine. The problem is the codecs.
"Can play almost any..." can get frustating, when you get the feeling that it's just you struggling with the format...

Well I've got most of the controls of the VLC player to work so I'll just stick with that, mplayer used to be perfect for me until recently when it started lagging and nothing I tried to fix it worked (see my first post.)

Try the Smplayer frontend for mplayer.

Dragon Player works for me but it is KDE4's default

What version of mplayer are you using?
Have you tried a more recent version?
