My guess is you need to read this from the top.

In Ubuntu you do have full access to everything you own and the sudo/root restriction is done for security reasons.

Ok then, so there's a good chance I'll never have to change any permissions so in this case how do I use easyvmx? new thread being created...

I like VirtualBox, It even has a .deb installer (you can just doubleclick the thing) http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

I would highly recomend this tutorial to get you stated (assuming you want to virtualise WinXP) using virtualbox - Unite Windows and Linux With a Single Mouse Click (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Unite-Windows-and-Linux-With-a-Single-Mouse-Click-78535.shtml)

I moved your thread to the virtualization section.

At the top of this section is a sticky re: Vmware that will walk you through VMWare Server. By report it works on Workstation, I have not heard re: VMX.

Other options include qemu (slow) and (if you have the hardware) KVM

I also merged you threads. Please do not start multiple threads on the same topic :)

It causes confusion and duplication of effort.
