Hi,

been struggling with mc (midnight commander) and displaying weird characters.
See thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=465676.
Problem here is that after applying the solution mentioned, mc is fixed but perl is a bit wacko.
->
<me>:~# sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = (unset),
LC_ALL = (unset),
LANG = "en_US"
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

fixed it....

thanx to http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2326951&postcount=6

only addition is:->in my installation of Hardy there was no file /etc/locale.def, therefore:->

sudo pico /etc/locale.def
en_US ISO-8859-1
en_US.ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-15
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
Exit with CTRL+X and save. rest is the same as the thread->
