I seriously want to know what happens when you do this:


sudo rm -rf /*

I'm sure someone has done it before.

Yes, what that command does is delete everything on your partition...
Never do it!

Well, what I really want to know is what happens after. I mean, does the OS halt or anything like that?

Don't do that you will lose all data in that partition. Even though Linux is free and you can always recover =)

you would need to reinstall, because everything is gone

just search on youtube if you want to know what it does. a couple people have posted videos of the command in action.

What happens after is really nothing much. You cant use the shutdown options because it doesn't know how to use them. So you have to hold the power button until it shuts down and then start over.
