Hi all.

The only reason I still have a Windows machine is my dependency on ACDSee.

I would like to break with Windows and only have Linux running on all my machines, BUT I have hundreds of family photos saved on several CD and DVD's and ACDSee keeps thumbnails with the information on all of them in my archive.

This saves multiple gigs of HDD space.

When I’m looking for a specific photo I search the archive and find the thumbnail. When I click on the thumbnail it tells me what disk to insert to insert to recover the photo.

Is there equivalent software for Lunix / Ubuntu?

It's not quite what you're looking for, but take a look at Google Picasa http://picasa.google.com/

ACDSee versions up to 3.x will run stable in Wine too http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=299

You can also try F-spot which is installed by default.

I second that. I use Picasa only because I like using GTK apps in Gnome and QT apps in KDE and digiKam is KDE.
