Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-21 generic
On an amd 64 3800 dual core I do not run the 64 bit ubuntu

I was running ubuntu for months fine and then I did an upgrade today and restart. Now the kernel will not build properly - it just will bring up a blank screen then it will make the drum sound and then it will flash a whole bunch of different colors on a bright and blank screen. I tried recovery and back to the earliest kernel and still the same nonsense. It has been running so fine solong that I forgot everything I know about fixing kerenels etc. I have this running on windows on a different machine I obviously don't want to go back to that nightmare of XP

hi there,
can you please boot up an alternative media, i.e. another operating system, or a cd (i.e the ubuntu live cd), mount your ubuntu partition, and paste here the contents of /var/log/syslog (this file is VERY long, so please either use [quote] tags, or upload the file specifically.)
