The computer seems to have gotten a virus. Whenever I try and check my files, I get a BSOD. The only thing that works is the Internet, but even then the OS freezes every 15 minutes...

 did you fall for it?

I believe your problem is using Windows 95.

Come on what happened to choice.

Try a free Anti Virus such as Avast! I believe that is still supported on Windows 95.

Could be a hardware problem - I sometimes have the BSOD when I've been tinkering with the insides of an older computer that I currently run using Win98SE

Hi...

Yes, avast still offers support for Windows 95. The system requirements are listed here...

http://www.avast.com/eng/system-requirements-avast-home.html

These are the minimum requirements, I would imagine it would need a Pentium class system with at least 64 to 128 MB's of memory to even begin to run smoothly, without system bogdown. ;)

You can download it here, be sure to register for a product key...

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Also, you might want to check for other malware. I think Spybot is the only program left that will support Windows 95 and, unfortunately, even that might be coming to a close. :(

The latest version is available at the author's site...

If this version does not work, you can try 1.5 here...

Let us know how it turns out, if your system is clean, then we are looking at hardware or other software (OS) issues. What is your system specifically and what are the specs?

Best Regards...
