Does anyone know of a free one that will work with ubuntu? It would be nice if it also had a tone generorator and a pink noise gen as well. It does not have to be really really nice, just something that works.

I have not tried this, but have a look at the following website

http://www.baudline.com/

or do a google search for baudline.

Let me know if you have any luck with it. It looks like it does more than anyone could want.

I am very sorry. I am very new at Linux myself, and cannot help you. I am still struggling with many of the basics. For myself, I would first attempt to install it on a spare computer so I don't mess up the one I need the most. It should be quite easy to obtain a basic computer box that a person can mess around with. The keyboard. screen and mouse can be borrowed from your main computer. You can also keep it in the workplace where you do your electronic thing.

If you have installation problems, post them on your working computer and someone might be better able to help you than I can. There seems to be a helpful keen group around here.

Good luck.
