Hey,
I think we should have one forum/thread for introductions... they are really cluttering up commnunity chat!

Yes, put all the socialites in one place where we can keep an eye on them. :)

I don't know about one thread, but I could agree with one subforum.

One thread could get huge, like that otaku thread in community...hard to search through.

I like the subforum idea more..... It could be either, that's why I suggested both.
If we had one thread, sure it'd be harder... But, it may be the only way to go if we have a lot of forums (which we do).

Close it at X (say, 500) replies, and start another part, add a little competition in to make a nice topicstart and you'e got a nice topicseries.
p.s.
If you're going to start a central thread for it, include a small template where people can just copy/paste the questions and fill in their answer. Otherwise it might just be too time-consuming to introduce yourself and you'll just skip it (which I've done when I joined these forums. That, and that I don't want to start a thread with a "HERE I AM!!!!! BOW BE4 M3!!!"-kind of post.

Must give this more thought.
I don't like the idea of saying to new users, "So glad you're here - but go over here to post, we don't want you cluttering up our areas."
hmmm.

eh? Simply edit the "Our records show you haven't made a post yet, why don't you head over to the Community Chat forum and say hello" into "Hello $user! Our records show you haven't posted yet, why don't you head over to our 'Introduce yourself!' topic in our 'Community chat' forum and introduce yourself to us!"
With or without a link to the thread in question, with being more userfriendly but will need to be maintained (otherwise they'd get redirected to part X when part Y is the current one)
Seeing they're new users they also wouldn't know that we'd rather not see a forum cluttered up by 'hi!' threads, but would rather be pleasantly surprised by an 'Introduce yourself' topic.
Or at least, so the pseudo-psychologist in me says.
Besides, I don't think people are that eager to make a new thread to post information about themselves when;
A) There's a notice at the top pointing them to a particular topic where they can do this
B) They'd be the only ones to start a new thread for it

............... I don't want the users to be like "they don't want us posting"! But, most other forums have an "Introduce Yourself" forum or thread... But the CC is getting cluttered, though.

That, and new users simply won't know that it was common to start a new topic to introduce yourself in earlier, so how would they get a feeling of being 'unwanted', then?
