Did you use a free client? If so which one? I've been wanting to play it since I saw my friend playing it as his house, but VMWare can't run the client from 'clownphobia'.

I abandoned ro and most games as I moved to linux. I'd be willing to take it up again if I could get it running on my system.

If I could get RO running in Linux I'd do it in a heartbeat. Always wanted to join a private server... hey, the Ubuntu RO players should all go to the same server, whatever it is.

What I did to get it running, after following the download instructions, was, in winecfg, change the settings from windows 2000 to windows 98. At the login screen, it constantly flickers, and when i tried to log in, it said it was temporarily down, so i guess i'll have to wait for the server to get back up to play. However, changing the settings to windows 98 should make it work, it wouldn't work as windows 2000.

Wow, this is so cool that you all play or try to play RO. I play on Euphro myself, I haven't yet got it working on linux, bit I will try to wine it like "Zeroedout" said.

Rad stuff. I'm running the amd64 breezy at the moment and can't find a wine port (or get my 3d accelleration running), but I'm installing 32 bit breezy tomorrow most likely, and hopefully I'll see you all in Euphro. We should start a guild or at least all join the same guild. That'd be tight. Last time I played RO I never really bothered joining any groups, and I have to say it's less fun without a dedicated group of allies.

Hey, anybody with an ATI card and fglrx get this running at a playable framerate? This other guy on winhq and I seem to be having a the same problem; the game runs really choppy full screen, and windowed mode does not work. If you got RO working and are using an ATI card, please post how you did it!

Cool, I used to play a while ago on windows, then again on euphro. I do have a slight problem though with that server. Donations were made to help the server/upgrades etc then the admin used it for a plane ticket, other than that, it's an extremely stable server.

Wow. I thought this was about Red Orchestra, which does work on Linux btw. (probably the most tactical game available for Linux actually.)

Have you enabled a virtual desktop? Also try disbaling the sound and see if that makes it run faster, though i do not think that will do anything. Also try changing the vertex shader support option, and as a last resort, try chagning from win2k to something else, that really shouldn't change how fast it runs, but you never know.

two things to tell:
1º I've tried with another client, and it also says "conection errors" and kick me out....
2º I know why it runs so slow, somehow I've losed 3D acceleration
don't know why/how the heck I losed it, but I know 'cuz glx gears runs at super-duper sslow speed, and cedega tells me that I don't have 3d acceleration
how weird uh?

You probably didn't install the nvidia drivers for your video card.

December 2nd, 2005, 10:39 PM
yes I did installed it, it was the first thing I installed when I first use breezy 2 weeks after it came out
I had 3d acceleration since that day......
but since a couple days ago, I don't have it anymore, but everything is ok in my xorg.conf ,so I don't know ............
I noticed it when that goddammed piece of crapware called cedega tell me that I didn't passed the "3d acceleration support test" ](*,)
so, maybe is cedega's fault xD

Wounder if there is any free-server ro that has it own game download, not just a client, maybe it would work then.
