My parents have a Windows XP MCE machine with the welcome screen and fast user switching enabled.

If I got to the control panel and then power options to set the idle time required for standby, each user seems to have a separate settings? Shouldn't this be a global/administrator option?

Am I missing something here? Should I disable standby for all but one user?

How many users are on that machine? If I am not mistaken, when you change something like power settings, it should change across user accounts. At lease they do in XP(I think).

A very late reply, but just in case you still haven't sorted it:

This is windows xp mce, and things do not change globally.

I had looked into gpedit.msc, but I will give this link a shot: http://sdmsoftware.com/blog/2008/08/...ent_in_xp.html

I installed the Group Policy Preferences on my computer but I can't seem to find anything. There isn't anything new in gpedit.msc and I don't know where to look for all the features this thing says it adds.
