Hey every1,
basically I want to completely switch to ubuntu. The one reason why I couldn't yet do it is because of my music library. Basically I want to know whether there is a program that can finally break the DRM protection, sync my purchased songs(which are on an external HD)and recognize my ipod. (I know that I am asking for a lot...)
Any help is appreciated,
best nicholas

I'm not familiar with DRM protection and music bought from iTunes. Do you have the music in mp3 format? If so then I think you can import those.
The default player in Ubuntu is Rhythmbox which is very familiar with iTunes. It's not so complex I think but that's why I like it. There's also Songbird. Some prefer Amarok.
Google those programs so you can see the features and screenshots and all.

there's a number of packages out there that will do it, just google 'requeim itunes', that would be the best one, but if you have itunes 8 already, you'll have to wait until the next version of requiem is available....
also what you can do is burn your itunes store bought music to audio cd, then bring it back into your new library with a lossless codec (that way you don't lose any more sq). i recently decided i want to rebuild my entire music library (all 30+GB worth, so i chose to bring my itunes store purchases in as lossless files).

Hi Nicholas, I did exactly what you describe (removing the drm on songs I leagally own) using an application called myfairtunes. The only catch is that I had to do it from Windows, not Ubuntu. Since switching to Ubuntu, I've been purchasing non-DRM songs from Amazon.

doesn't look like songbird is removing the drm, although it allows playback of protected tracks which is cool.

If you don't have too many DRM tracks, burning them to CD and then re-ripping them works to remove it, just don't be a dumba$$ and give them to everyone you know
