Is it safe to log out by pressing Crl+Alt+Backspace, of does it just end your login process, just as if you press switch user???

Hitting ctrl alt backspace kills your window manager, destroying any unsaved documents and forcing applications closed before they can properly perform tasks they may wish to perform before closing. This shouldn't be used as means of logging out, but is very useful if an application locks up and kills your entire graphical user interface. Use of the logout button is the preferred and safest method of logging out.
