The longer documentary style version of the video is being released later this week.
From the creators of SmashMyiPod.com, we bring you, SmashMyXbox.com!
After we collect $430 in donations, we will take that money to a local unspecified retailer, which opens at 12am on the launch date. We will purchase the Xbox 360, and destroy it in front of the other Xbox fanboys who are already waiting in line. We will try to be at the very front of the line. The whole thing will be shot on film, and displayed on this site. This is only a social experiment, for the entertainment of the donors, and visitors of this site.

Oh hahahaha, people really should relax.. I found a link to a xbox forum (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=462122) where there was some realy heated discussion about this. Too bad it's down atm, but people there were taking this joke bit too seariously. Still I think this smashing thing was good; weird but fun =D>

Actually, wasn't this like a paid service/show? They've been collecting money by donations from people who want to see this kind of thing, so they are only providing a service (smashing xbox) because there seems to be demand (payments for this service) for it.
So, when enough people "pay" to see this kinda action and they give enough money ---> "showtime" as ordered :)
Same kinda business-model is used alot by the entertaining industry, i.e. in some parts of the world it's common for non-profit organizations to collect capital through different kinds of fundrasing events (donations) to produce an event of some sort.
Example: High School dramaclub might collect donations to do a play, and when they get enough money they'll do it. And if they don't get enough donations, well it's a sign that no-one's interested and you'd better come up with a more interesting plan/idea/show.
Hope you get my idea. This was a paid service/show, no need to call anyone juvenile/idiots/whatever. They didn't waste any of their own money, just the money people had paid to see this kinda demolition. :KS

Saw this to this a few days ago from the Inquirer, along with that thread on the XBox forum. I find the concept hilarious but it's a shame there weren't more queues of people watching like I had an anticipated, the people that were watching didn't seem too bothered. But the fact all those forum losers are crying about it just shows that the stunt did acheive the desired outcome.

Ironic... they make a video smashing the Xbox 360 which will most likely appeal to non-Windows users and what video codec do they use?...WMV O_o

I was a bit bewildered about that too.

Who said they hate Microsoft? Take a look at the guy's website, this isn't an anti-Windows or anti-Microsoft protest, they plan on doing the same with the PS3 and Revolution and have already done the same thing with the iPod. It's an anti-consumerism statement, at least that's the way I interpreted it.

Yeah, it's not just a joke it's a statement. Just imagine that you are a gamer and standing in line to get your object of longing to see it smashed in front of your eyes. People have become to attached to gear, and specially branded gear, it's nonsense. No one would pay attention to a non-branded console [or something like that] being smashed.
[edit] Just saw the video. Not very good camera work, but it was funny. «Why?» cried on of the guys, and another asked «Can I have your controller?» and this guy a box with him? People can't keep their hands from the cookie jar.

I agree with the anti-consumerism (good!) But, doesn't microsoft lose money on each xbox sold, and make it back from the games? If so, this stunt hurt them! (Mabe 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000001% but so what?)
:p

I think that was true for the original Xbox. Don't know if will play like that this time. Anyway, can't wait to see someone running Ubuntu on 360. I would buy one.
