I'm sure this has been posted before, but I just wanted to give my own perspective on it.
So I've been running WoW via WINE on Ubuntu for the better part of 3 months now and I have to say, it runs great!
My main computer decided to take a nose-dive and left me with only my Ubuntu laptop to toy with. Now I'm running a 2.3ghz Pentium with 512MB of RAM, of which 32MB are used for graphics) and I get pretty decent performance.
Sure, everything is run at the lowest possible settings, but it runs. I ran Karazhan on my priest as main healer with a few hiccups, but after a few minutes, I got used to the system lag and was able to heal the entire run with little problem.
Sure, I can't run all the mods I used to run, but I have Grid, KLH Threat Meter, Deadly Boss Mods, and Cartographer running with little issues.
I have an extra 512MB of RAM coming in the mail and will post an update once it's received and installed.
My question is this. Do you guys know of any way to force more RAM to be used for graphic processing through Ubuntu? I haven't tried to force more via the BIOS since I haven't had the RAM yet, but it would be pretty nice if this was something that could be configured via OS.
Also, I'd love to hear about other Ubuntu users running WoW through Linux.
What server are you on?
Are you Horde or Alliance?
Have you noticed any dips in performance as opposed to running in Windows?
Any tips on boosting performance?
I look forward to your replies!
EDIT: I just went into the BIOS and there is no way to force more memory to the graphic processor. If you know of a way to do so through OS, please let me know!
