All of the forum posts I have read only address part of this issue. I have yet to find a complete solution.
I have two monitors, an Acew AL2216W (wide) and an older Sony LCD (normal).
Through nvidia-settings I have configured the two to run two different xsessions so I can run them at different resolutions.
The problem is that I cannot get the Acer to set a resolution of 1680x1050. I have tried modelines to no avail.
Under the current setup, I can set it to 1600x1024. But that's as close as I can get.
Here's my current xorg:
