Webcams

I'm planning on asking for a webcam this Christmas, and I'm wondering if a Microsoft Lifecam would work. They have high average review ratings on Amazon and they seem relatively low-priced, but... I don't have a Microsoft operating system. I'm sure it will work, I'm just wanting to make sure before I ask and get something that won't work.

Here are two webcam compatibility lists (that should also work with Ubuntu on intrepid and newer):

You may need to find out which chipset that camera uses. Wikipedia says that devices certified for Windows should support the uvc standard. While this means it should work it might be best to ensure you have one on those lists.
