I want to create music. To that end, I have installed Ubuntu Studio. Strangely, this has been one headache after another. Currently I have no sound.

I have a Intel Q6600 @2.4G with 4Gigs of RAM. Can I create music with standard Ubuntu -- which had none of these problems. I am not planning on using it in concerts, just creating music, burning it to FLAC and then converting to MP3 for net release.

I am just tired of fighting with Studio, since I started right after 8.04 was released and we are almost to the next version & I have been able to do nothing with Studio.

You would need to install some software, but yes, you can create music in Ubuntu.

I do it all the time.

No you don't need to use Ubuntu Studio to make music, you can make music in Ubuntu also. Ubuntu Studio just comes with some other packages installed by default

Whay have you tried to fix your problems regarding sound output? IŽd use Jackd (QjackCTL) if I were you.

No doubt you have already seen some of these, but maybe not:

The last one is really good about explaining how to set up all the jack apps to work together.
