This is not really a Ubuntu question, but I'll put it here in case someone has a good answer.

Does anyone know of encryption software that will allow me to encrypt data on a USB stick and then access that data via another machine (including Windows), without requiring administrator's rights?

Scenario: I work from home, but also have bases in several offices around the city. I use Linux, but the offices all use XP. I need access to my work files but they contain some sensitive data, including cases notes and info. that identifies other people. I need to be able to walk into an office, plug in the stick, decrypt the data, work, finish up, and leave without leaving data on the host machine or to need admin. rights over the host.

Thanks, especially if anyone knows something that may fit the bill.

Adair.

hmm, truecrypt might do it... but it will require rights to mount a drive...

Thanks for that suggestion, but as far as I know the 'roaming' version of Truecrypt requires admin rights over a host machine.

Cheers, A.

all you need to be able to is to mount the truecrypt file as drive

Well, I can but try---it might even work! :-P

Thanks, Adair.

GPG possibly??

What do you want to encrypt on the USB drive?

The entire stick, a portion of the stick, or some files?
