You have to wait until the next version of Ubuntu to get the version of software(Exp. Gnome or KDE)?

Lets say Gnome just released a new STABLE upgrade to there line of software, we have to wait till the next version of Ubuntu to get these new features? Thats is ******* stupid, and its very inconvenient to install them yourself.

Two resources:

getdeb.net

and ubuntu backports. That should solve all of your problems.

Ubuntu is not a rolling release distro. If that's what you want, check out Arch or Zenwalk Snapshot.

well the repositories are ordered the way they are for a reason, constantly upgrading things for the sake of upgrading them can break a system.
This is true in any OS, even in windows.
For package maintainers its always best to keep to what is stable.

Ubuntu follows Gnome release schedule, so you get the new version of Gnome just a month after it has been released. Which is good cause it's nothing is exactly bullet-proof after an update.

Yes, this. The Ubuntu devs want to keep things more stable so they won't be doing this. There are distros that cater to people like you and me who like things up to date. I use arch. If you want something more "out of the box" try Zenwalk or Foresight.
