View Full Version : [ubuntu] stuck keys (and mouse?)

On my Daru2 I occasionally have a problem where a key will get stuck. For instance I just had the "windows" key permanently pressed, which caused a lot of shortcuts to be activated unintentionally. I believe it is a software problem, as I restarted X (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) and it went away.
This may or may not be related, but I also seem to get random mouse clicks when typing. Though this may just be my touchpad is too sensitive, and I'm unaware I'm hitting it.

That's pretty common with laptos, so you're probably correct.

I would've doubted it was software related until you said that restarting X fixed it. I'm wondering if you have another keyboard layout configured which is being inadvertently toggled somehow. Also, there are settings in System > Prefs > Keyboard that allow you to map the Windows key in various ways. Have you modified those?

I've modified the "Repeat Keys" fairly recently, but don't recall having modified anything else. "Alt/Win key behavior" is set to Default. I should add this problem comes up pretty randomly that not all that frequently. Other modifier keys get "stuck" as well. Sometimes I'll notice it when I click on a firefox tab, it closes the tab instead of switching to it. Though when this happens I can usually get unstuck by hitting random keys. (unfortunately I don't recall which one solved that particular occurrence)

I'm not really sure. I've never seen that happen before.
You might try getting some canned air and blowing it through the spaces around your keys. Maybe you do have some bread crumbs or dust bunnies living in there and gumming things up a little.
