One possibility is to use OpenDNS - it comes with several options for blocking "adult" sites. See http://www.opendns.com/ for details.

+1 for OpenDNS. This is especially useful if enabled on your router, rather than on a per-client basis.
I'd venture to say that this alone should solve your problems.

Firstly Thank you,
I do not use a router to access my Internet, I have a Wireless broadband in which is directly connected to my PC.
I have tried Open DNS and have followed all instructions in allowing me to access their services, however i have continually go into Open DNS to set up a network IP in order for me to get the necessary protection.
I also looked into the Automatic function in Ubuntu to allow the address to change without my intervention but with no luck I still have to access Open DNS to update the network IP in order for me to get it to work other wise i still am able to gain access to adult sites and illegal sites.
Thank you for your help, if you have any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Also, for website blocking solely for Firefox, you can add the FoxFilter extension. It works great for me (but no other users are on my computer, so I don't have to worry about them trying to crack the password or anything).
