Hi, My name is Gerry and I am new to the whole unix thing but I like the concept, so I decided to givr it a try. I down loaded the live CD(from different computers at different times from different types of networks) and I can not get this thing to work. I have a zv6130us w/ 64bit AMD processor. I put the cd in and it configures everything and then just freezes. Some one told me that the right terminology is that I can't get into X. I have no real clue what I'm doing here, but I just need some help to get started. I would really like to give unix a whirl.

Hi Gerry. Take a look at this thread

That might be what's happening to yours.

When you say it freezes, have you tried pressing ctrl-alt-F1 to get into a terminal? If you can do this, type startx at the command prompt. This should run X, but it probably won't. However, you will be able to see some error messages which may help diagnose the problem.
