This is the worst beta experience I have ever had. I ran the betas for 7.04, 7.10, and 8.04. None of those every gave me problems besides little tiny glitches here and there. 8.10 is a radical new experience, and I am fairly worried.
I like to use my daru2 for testing. My Wild Dog is my "serious system" that has to be solid all the time. So, it's not like it's the end of the world that a beta fails to run smoothly. I'll just reinstall 8.04 onto my daru2 to regain productivity, but everything is falling apart in the 8.10 beta so far. I hope none of it carries over into the 8.10 final release.
First, the system somehow "forgot" what my display was. It had 1280x800 yesterday, but now it doesn't recognize that resolution. It also thinks that I still have an external monitor plugged in, but I don't. Now, I cannot get any audio players to work. The system audio works fine (the theme sounds), but I cannot play OGGs, MP3s, etc. In Totem, the menu drop-downs do NOT erase themselves. If I mouse over the menus one at time, I have all the menus displaying at once. It's pretty goofy.
I hope the final release proves a more positive experience. Otherwise, the system76 team will certainly have their work cut out for them as they try to get 8.10 to just function right, much less run the system76 driver.
