I currently have Hardy 8.04 installed on my laptop. I was wondering if there is a way to view online media from hulu, nbc, abc etc. outside the united states. If I try to watch an episode from NBC it says I cannot because I'm outside the United states.
In XP I have downloaded Anchorfree Hotspot Shield which creates a vpn of sorts that tricks the servers into thinking you are in the United states and also increases security against online threats.
Is there anyway to do the same in Ubuntu because Hotspot Shield does not support linux.

This site (http://www.ventanazul.com/webzine/articles/openvpn-ubuntu-and-hulu) might help you. It will get OpenVPN installed. You'll need an American VPN server to connect to, though. If you know of anyone with a web server in the United States, they'd probably be able to hook you up.

You can also change your Firefox preferences to use a public proxy server (http://www.publicproxyservers.com/); if you find one in the United States, it would probably work.
