I'm on an XP-64 machine and not a super user. What causes this message. I don't think I have spyware.

I had Eclipse Trader (http://eclipsetrader.sourceforge.net/downloads.php) setup to read RSS feeds on Google Finance. Could that be the cause?

God, no!

You say the Google tells you you have spyware. Does it look like an ad maybe?

Definitely not an ad. I have ABP enabled on Firefox. It came up with the low graphics full page (not full screen) warning and made me do a CAPCHA to continue searching.

If you on the net my friend you likely have some but, if try spyware blaster adaware and spybot search and destroy, covers most of everything you can get

That makes me feel better. I checked around, apparently nobody knows what triggers that message. It is a legitimate message, not a scam.

I've seen that message before. It's a google security function, and it comes and goes without any explanation, but could be caused by using certain addons like ABP, Noscript, or customizegoogle. It is certainly not spyware, and should go away fairly quickly.

Well, I guess statistically it can happen. I mean, even this (http://ryanspoon.com/blog/2008/10/03/i-love-google-chrome-but/) has happened.

This happens to everyone at some point. Clear your cache and the problem goes away.

It's probably a bad cookie or something else minor. Just clear your cache and forget about it :KS
