Installation on Del Latitude c600/c500

Hi
I'm hoping someone can help with installing the latest version of Ubuntu on my Dell Latitue C600.

I have downloaded the ISO and burned onto CD using InfraRecorder.

When I boot from CD the main menu comes up, after clicking on install i get a load of text lines such as:
Buffer I/O error on device sro ######
SQUASHFS error

I have never tried installing Ubuntu before but I am very keen to make the switch, so if someone can help me it would be much appreciated.

I loaded ubuntu on an old Dell Optimax thing last year and had similar issues, the advice I received was to try the text installation version - it worked for me... I'm very new to linux tho'
