View Full Version : [ubuntu] VLC disables sound for other programs.

I have determined that, whenever I play a song in VLC, I cannot hear the sound from other programs, and, once VLC is closed, sound can be restarted; not resumed. Basically, I find this annoying, because I'm a huge multitasking nerd. I like to listen to songs of my own while playing games and surfing the net. While it doesn't matter much when surfing the net, this glitch makes restarting Firefox and closing out of VLC a must if I come across any Flash files I want to view.

Pausing VLC does not bring sound back to other processes. I have to close VLC and, sometimes, have to log out of (and back into) Ubuntu. If any of you know why this glitch occurs, I welcome explanations, even if they don't provide solutions.

Just change the Settings/Preferences/Audio/Output Modules/Audio Ouput Modules option in vlc to pulseaudio. If you really want to get all your sound working together try my guide here:
