Hello,

Is there a way to reduce the overall heat ?

Is there a way to control the fans ?

Is it a solution to install a 64bit operating system ?

I've tried gkrellm + dell addon. No succes.

You can cut down on processor speed a bit, that generates quite a lot of heat.

I used this guide here:

Thanks for your adice, but that's not quite in my interest (to reduce the frequence).

I am little dissapointed of Dell and their Inspiron series. I am thinking to buy another laptop.

What kind of precessor do you have? I have a Vostro 1400 with Intel Core duo and it rarely gets warm. I kind of think that Vostro 1400 and the Inspiron 1525 have a lot in common.

hi nomemory,

I've got a 1525 and I also think it gets way too hot.
Not too hot to be dangerous for the hardware, but too hot on top to be comfortable to use.

Yes, I changed to 64 bit and it **SEEMED** to help reduce touchpad heat a bit. Maybe try a 64 bit livecd and see if it helps yours (although the spinning of the CD causes a bit of heat).

No, I have not found a way to control the fans (eg i8k) on a 1525.

Some posts I've read since buying my laptop suggest that the vostros are much better built with much better components than the inspirons. Inspirons seem like great value for money when you read the specs, but I guess they are cheap for a good (bad) reason.

There are so many different hardware combinations called 'inspiron 1525' that it's probably not worth your time and frustration trying to figure out the real cause of the problem.

The BEST fix I found was to use one of those cheap usb cooling fan pads under the laptop. They're a bit awkward to use in some situations, and they use extra power, but having the fans underneath cooled my laptop heaps.

Cheers,
