View Full Version : [ubuntu] problem with headphone port

mine is inspiron 1525 laptop.i am using ubuntu ultimate version.when i used to work in windows my 2 headphone ports used to work simultaneously.after i switched to ubuntu only one is working.the other one is not at all working..help help me to solve this problem.

Open a terminal. If you don't know how to open a terminal, read from here on:

From the Applications ribbon bar menu, select Accessories and pull the highlighter to Terminal.


at the command prompt type:

aslamixer

use the cursor keys to move to the mic positon (towards the right end of the mixer panel), check that the mic is on and the necessary volumes are high enough.

ctrl-q to exit.

If you don't know what ctrl-q is

hold down the Ctrl key and at the same time, press the q key.

I had to double click on the volume indicator, then choose edit -> preferences, turn on 'front' and 'surround' - that's what it is for my two jacks I believe.
